The restoration of the Peradeniya “Kalupalama” (Devil's Bridge), which was severely damaged by the floods caused by Cyclone "Ditwa"

 

The restoration of the Peradeniya “Kalupalama” (commonly known as the Devil’s Bridge), which was severely damaged by flooding caused by Cyclone “Ditwa”, has been officially initiated.

The project is being jointly implemented by Central Engineering Services (Pvt) Ltd (CESL), the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau (CECB), the University of Peradeniya (UOP), and Sri Lanka Railways.

Accordingly, the Chief Engineer in charge of this project, Eng. Anura Semasinghe (Chief Executive Officer of CESL), stated that the restoration work is scheduled to be completed and officially handed over by 28th April 2026.

Eng. Semasinghe further stated that the estimated cost of the restoration project is approximately LKR 238 Mn., and this will be carried out 100% with the expertise of local engineers.
