Inauguration and Official Handover of the Multi-Ethnic and Trilingual National School (Pahse I) constructed in Kaduruwela, Polonnaruwa with the assistance of the Government of India
Inauguration and Official Handover of the Multi-Ethnic and Trilingual National School constructed in Kaduruwela, Polonnaruwa with the assistance of the Government of India, was held recently (31st October, 2025) under the patronage of Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education of Sri Lanka, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and High Commissioner of India, Mr. Santosh Jha.
The project was constructed by Central Engineering Services (Pvt) Ltd and will have facilities for 400 students to engage in educational activities in its first phase. It will include special education units, language classrooms, e-learning classrooms, dormitories, an administrative building, laboratory facilities, sanitary facilities, and teachers' quarters.
This school will provide opportunities for students from diverse communities to receive education in Sinhala, Tamil and English languages in a multi-ethnic, multicultural environment.
According to the Indian High Commission in Colombo, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between India and Sri Lanka in February 2017 and was revised on 29th April, 2024 to establish this school as a High Impact Community Development Project aimed at providing quality educational opportunities in a multi-ethnic and multicultural environment. The Indian financial assistance for the first phase of this project stands at over LKR 230 million.
