New Cancer Treatment Center - Phase I at National Hospital, Kandy Declared Open for Treatment
The establishment of a Cancer Treatment Center at the National Hospital complex at Kandy was the brainchild of the Hon. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa during his previous tenure as President. The twelve storied Treatment Center with 600-bed capacity and cost estimated approximately at Rs. 1945 million will be the second largest Cancer Treatment Center on completion in the national health care system, second only to Apeksha Hospital Maharagama, and equipped with latest medical equipment installations and advanced technology applications. It will be world class Center for Cancer treatment in Sri Lanka.
The first phase of the new Cancer Treatment Center at the National Hospital Kandy providing facilities and ancillaries for Linear Accelerator Radiation Therapy was declared open by Hon. Keheliya Rambukwella, Minister of Health on 11th of November 2021 with the participation of Health Ministry Secretary Maj. Gen. Dr. Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena, Secretary to the Ministry of State Dr. Saman Ratnayake, Director of the Kandy National Hospital Dr. Aruna Jayasekara, Director of the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital Dr. Arjuna Tillekeratne, Chief Financial Officer Mr. Hemantha, and other distinguished guests and CESL engineers.
The Central Engineering Services (Pvt) Ltd is honoured to be associated with the Client Ministry of Health as the trusted construction contractor for this meritorious project implemented with state funding pooled with consented funding by leading Corporates and other well-wishers. The CESL successfully completed the construction of first phase consisting of two floors with total floor area of about 2370m2 costed at Rs. 345 million. The first phase houses facilities and installations for Linear Accelerator therapy, CT Simulator, Brachytherapy and Mold laboratory on the Basement floor with the Iodine Therapy Unit and Supporting Machineries on the Mezzanine Floor. The Construction of the Second Phase of the project is ongoing with 33% completion.
