Renovation work on the massive sinkhole on the entrance road near Kotmale Reservoir dam completed.

 

The appearance of a massive sinkhole on the road leading to Kotmale Dam was reported by the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka on 26th May 2021. Preliminary investigations by the Department of Geology, University of Peradeniya, found that the sinkhole was caused due to underground soil erosion in the road basement area where Hume pipes were laid for water exit. The Sinkhole which was about 100 meters from the Dam while posing a stability risk to the Dam also blocked traffic to nearby villages inconveniencing the villagers.
The Central Engineering Services (Pvt) Ltd with its expertise and experience in undertaking similar disaster recovery projects was called on to undertake repair works by the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka on the instructions of Hon. Siripala Gamalath, Minister of Mahaweli, and Hon. Anuradha Jayaratne State Minister of Irrigation.
Central Engineering Services (Pvt) Ltd in association with the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau and the Road Development Authority, fast completed the reconstruction and repair works swiftly.
