Grand Opening of the newly constructed Court Complex at Matara
The new Matara Court Complex constructed under “Vistas of Prosperity” vision of His Excellency Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, was ceremoniously declared open online by Hon. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa on 29th of October 2021 in association with Hon. Mohamed Ali Sabri, PC, Minister of Justice, jointly with Hon. Dallas Alahapperuma, Minister of Mass Media present at the ceremony. The occasion was graced by His Lordship Chief Justice, Hon. Judges of the Matara High Court, Members of Parliament, Secretary to the Ministry of Justice, the President and Members of the Matara Judicial Bar Association, and Engineers of the Central Engineering Services (Pvt) Ltd.
The Matara Court Complex with a floor area of about 12,600 sqm, two High Courts (Civil Appeal/Criminal and Commercial), three District Courts, two Magistrate Courts, one Labour Tribunal, one Children’s Court/Additional Court. The complex is aesthetically designed, landscaped, linked with an access road network, parking spaces, security and with public address system. Public facilities including staff and public canteens, sanitary comforts, bank, post office, bookshop are provided.
The Matara Court Complex was constructed by the Central Engineering Services (Pvt) Ltd., for the client Ministry of Justice at the cost of Rs. 1097 million.
