Renovation work on the sinkhole which occurred on the stretch of the main entrance road near the dam of Kotmale Reservoir

 

Road renovation work was started last days after a geological study on the drowning of the main entrance road near the dam of Kotmale reservoir.
According to a study conducted by the Department of Geology at the University of Peradeniya with the awareness of His Excellency the President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, its Deputy Professor Jagath Gunathilake confirmed that the sinking was caused by the soil erosion of the hume pipes that were built on the bottom of the water exit road.
A special discussion regarding the start of relevant renovation work was held with the participation of Mahaweli Minister Siripala Gamalath, Minister of Irrigation Anuradha Jayaratne and its renovation work was entrusted to the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka, the Road Development Authority (RDA) and the Central Engineering Services (Pvt) Ltd (CESL).
Accordingly, Ministerial Secretary Anura Dissanayake has instructed to the Central Engineering Services (Pvt) Ltd (CESL) under the Ministry of Irrigation to speed up the renovation work of the sinking area around 100 meters from the dam. Then the Central Engineering Services (Pvt) Ltd (CESL) have commenced the relevant renovation work and all the renovation work have been completed by now.
